Integrated caliber 3600

The extremely complex and exclusive new Caliber 3600 called for five years of development. This mechanical manual-winding movement comprises 23 complications, including three distinct times driven by three dedicated gear trains. A tropical gear train which simulates the tropical year, meaning the elliptical orbit of the Earth around the Sun, was designed to enhance the precision of the solar functions. A three-week power reserve is ensured by six barrels, coupled by threes. A true feat of miniaturisation and engineering, this caliber measuring just 8.7 mm thick comprises a total of 514 components.

Key points

An astronomical grand complication

Les Cabinotiers Celestia Astronomical Grand Complication 3600 features a total of 23 complications on its twin sides. On the mainplate (front) side, the dial displays civil time indications (including a perpetual calendar with a precision moon phase), solar time indications and a mareoscope with Earth-Moon-Sun alignment. The bridge side (back dial) features an innovative and transparent celestial chart indicating sidereal time, for which a patent has been filed.

Running equation of time on a tropical gear train

The 'running' equation of time is extremely rare due to its complexity and enables instant reading of true solar time by means of an additional coaxial minutes hand. To ensure exactitude and precision, Vacheron Constantin has developed a tropical gear train simulating the tropical year, to which the solar hand is set. This complication is an authentic watchmaking feat for which a patent has been filed.

Transparent celestial chart

A celestial chart of the Northern Hemisphere has been created on the back of this mechanical masterpiece. Indicating the constellations, the Milky Way as well as projections of the celestial equator and the ecliptic, this sky map was devised in an innovative way involving two superimposed sapphire discs. This construction, for which a patent has been filed, makes it possible to admire the finishing of Caliber 3600. The finely grained bridges and the transparent jewels are designed to ensure optimal legibility of sidereal time.

Design and finishing

Optimal legibility

The slate grey front dial provides a harmonious display of complications. On the back, the matt finishing and the transparent jewels enable clear readings of the indications appearing on the sapphire discs.

Refined finishing

The 514 components of the caliber measuring just 8.7 mm thick are meticulously adjusted and decorated by hand, a process calling for extreme dexterity.

Aesthetic details

Les Cabinotiers Celestia features remarkable finishing such as the engraved moon craters or the 3D depiction of the Earth-Moon-Sun alignment.

Sidereal transparency

Composed of two superimposed sapphire discs, the back dial reveals all the originality of its translucent sky map.
